Interactions with Public, Patients, and Their Attendants in the OPD by Postgraduate Residents and Faculty Members of the Department of Pediatrics

The Department of Pediatrics conducted an interactive public engagement activity in the Outpatient Department (OPD), aimed at strengthening communication with patients, their attendants, and the general public. The activity was carried out by postgraduate residents under the guidance of faculty members.
During the session, residents and faculty members actively interacted with parents and attendants accompanying children visiting the OPD. They listened to their concerns, addressed common misconceptions regarding child health, nutrition, immunization, growth, hygiene, and common childhood illnesses. Special emphasis was laid on educating parents about timely vaccination, breastfeeding practices, complementary feeding, hand hygiene, and recognizing danger signs requiring urgent medical attention.
The postgraduate residents demonstrated excellent communication skills and empathy while counseling families. Faculty members supervised the sessions and provided expert guidance wherever required. The interactions helped create a friendly and reassuring environment for patients and attendants, improving their confidence in healthcare services.
The public appreciated the initiative and actively participated by asking questions and seeking clarifications related to child healthcare practices. Such activities also enhanced the learning experience of postgraduate residents by improving their counseling, communication, and patient-handling skills.
The program was successful in promoting awareness, patient satisfaction, and community trust while reinforcing the role of the hospital as a center for compassionate and quality pediatric care.
